Don't quit, just pivot
discipline might keep you broke
As a Andrew Huberman fanboy, I’ve adopted many of his health philosophies.
One of the most important ones for me is getting outside first thing in the morning to get sunlight.
So, for the past few weeks, I’ve made it a habit to wake up and take a 30 minute walk every morning.
But this morning... I woke up, ready to go outside, and it was pouring it down.
I thought to myself, “Stay disciplined. Push through the rain and get the walk in.”
Then, it hit me. Is this discipline or stupidity?
It’s pouring rain, and I’m considering walking outside and getting cold?
I literally have an alternative to go to my building’s gym.
Which by the way has a terrace where I could catch whatever sunlight the UK offers on a gloomy day.
I promise this isn’t just about the weather, gym and sunlight.
I thought I’d share that because this is where many people get stuck.
People get so caught up in a plan they don’t reflect at situations they’re in.
I'm not saying we should avoid discipline or give up on our goals at every little inconvenience.
But there’s a powerful lesson here.
Learn to pivot when circumstances change.
For example:
If you’re a trader attached to trading EURUSD but you keep losing money maybe pivot to GBPUSD.
If you’re running an eCommerce store that sells pet items and it's not working, why not pivot to supplements or another niche that aligns better with the market?
If your content agency isn’t picking up steam, maybe look into AI agencies or a different service offering.
The point is pivot when it’s clear that pushing through isn’t serving you.
The skill is still the same you’re just playing a game with a bit more leverage.
Don’t be stubborn and force yourself through a situation when the solution is right in front of you.
Adapt and move forward.
Now the question is how long should I try before I know it’s time to pivot?
You’ll know…
You’ll know in your soul whether you tried and legitimately pivoted.
Or if you were just lazy and took the”easier option” of jumping around.
